OUR CHOIRS

The Walnut Hills Choral Department includes five high school choirs and five junior high choirs

VOCAL ENSEMBLE

Vocal Ensemble is the varsity-level choir at Walnut Hills High School. Ranging from 60 to 80 singers, they perform large choral/orchestral works annually and are frequent guests at events around the city. They have sung at Feast of Carols, Sing for a Cause, Christ Church Cathedral, the Mercantile Library, Saint John the Divine Cathedral in NYC, and Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ, and have performed with the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra. At OMEA Large Group Adjudicated Events, they regularly receive a superior rating at the AA level. Biannually, they tour New York City over spring break. WOMEN’S ENSEMBLE

Along with Men’s Ensemble, Women’s Ensemble is one of two junior-varsity-level choirs at Walnut Hills High School. The 60-to-80-member choir is comprised of sophomores, juniors, and seniors and performs SSAA literature. The group regularly receives superior ratings in class AA at OMEA Large Group Adjudicated Events. Women’s Ensemble has performed with the Collaborative Ringing Project and at Choral Collision. MEN’S ENSEMBLE

Along with Women’s Ensemble, Men’s Ensemble is one of two junior-varsity-level choirs at Walnut Hills High School. The 20-to-40-member choir is comprised of sophomores, juniors, and seniors and performs TTBB literature. The group regularly receives superior ratings in class AA at OMEA Large Group Adjudicated Events. FRESHMAN CHOIR

Freshman Choir is the all-freshman introductory high school choir at Walnut Hills. Ranging from 60 to 80 singers, the group performs SATB literature and regularly receives superior ratings at OMEA Large Group Adjudicated Events in class B. CHAMBER CHOIR

Chamber Choir is an extracurricular small group ensemble ranging from 16 to 20 members. They have performed at Cantatafest, St. Peter in Chains, and other local venues and have made professional recordings. Their repertoire includes large works such as the Mozart Requiem and Bach’s Mass in B Minor and Cantata 131 as well as a cappella repertoire from the Renaissance through our modern musical era.

JUNIOR CHOIR GIRLS

Junior Choir Girls is one of two advanced junior high choirs at Walnut Hills High School. A year-long course, the choir focuses on SSA music during the first semester before combining with Junior Choir Boys in the second to perform more challenging class A high school SATB repertoire. Together with the Junior Choir Boys, they have performed at King’s Island Music in the Parks and OMEA Large Group Adjudicated Events, where they received a superior rating in junior high class A.

Junior Choir Boys is one of two advanced junior high choirs at Walnut Hills High School. A year-long course, the choir focuses on TTB music during the first semester before combining with Junior Choir Girls in the second to perform more challenging class A high school SATB repertoire. Together with the Junior Choir Girls, they have performed at King’s Island Music in the Parks and OMEA Large Group Adjudicated Events, where they received a superior rating in junior high class A.

BEGINNING CHOIR GIRLS

Beginning Choir Girls is one of two introductory junior high choirs. During this one-semester class, students learn the foundations of music and sightreading. The group performs mostly SA music but also combine with Beginning Choir Boys to perform one or two SAB or SATB pieces.

Beginning Choir Boys is one of two introductory junior high choirs. During this one-semester class, students learn the foundations of music and sightreading. The group performs mostly TB music but also combine with Beginning Choir Girls to perform one or two SAB or SATB pieces.

JUNIOR HIGH CHAMBER CHOIR

Junior High Chamber Choir is an extracurricular small group ensemble of 7th-9th graders ranging from 16 to 20 members.
